I can't decide if he's up to no good or good. He is quite a hunk and this kind of artful diversion is always a good thing.
I definitely think he is a cad; vain, self-absorbed, irresponsible. Our heroine might be attracted to him at the beginning, but she would eventually fall for his much more sensible younger brother by the end.
