Not my week

My rants for today:

1. Why do people feel the need to be rude to customer service professionals? My day job is providing customer service. I'm just trying to do my job. Being rude to me will not help encourage me to give you the student discount for which you don't even qualify for in the first place. It just makes us all upset for no reason.

So everyone, when you are upset at a business, keep in mind that the customer service people are usually not the ones responsible. Be nice to them. I will usually go above and beyond for nice people. I will not try to accomodate the mean people.

2. Somehow, I have been particularly targeted for fraud lately. The latest scheme was someone trying to purchase paintings from me; they sent a check for $1200 more than they were supposed to, issued from a Catholic Church (wha??), and wanted me to cash the check and pass on the paintings and the extra money to their shipping agent.

No, that's not suspicious! By the way, if you are going to try to rip me off, don't make me give you my paintings, too. I worked hard on those! They are one of a kind, people!

Show at ArtStar

Painting by Liz Wong
We have an exhibition opening on February 18th at Art Star in Philadelphia, PA. Go check it out if you are in the area! Here's one of the new paintings for the show, part of a series of recruitment posters for the Girl's Revolutionary Army. This painting is entitled "Our Agents Are Everywhere." I was originally going to call it "Everywhere there are signs the revolution is already begun," but it seemed a bit wordy.

Illustration Friday - Sea

It's been raining a lot here lately - it's rained for 23 days straight, or something like that. We're close to setting a record. Eric called me at work and told me the basement was flooding. This is what I pictured. He claimed that he rode around on the whale until his hand got stuck in the blowhole. But, this is closer to the reality of the situation:

Except that we don't have a duck.

Illustration Friday - Flavor

Flavor - for Illustration Friday. I've been eating a lot lately, and not exercising at all. I went on a little sugar binge today.

Illustration Friday - Holiday

holiday illustration for illustration friday
I was looking at all the Christmas lights on my way home tonight. We didn't put up any Christmas decorations at all this year. The people on our block must think we are a bunch of Scrooges.

art stash

This is a cool blog about the arts scene in Seattle, especially street art and some of the more interesting things going on in town. Maybe I'll have to actually get out more and see some things.

By the way, I spent the entire day in my pajamas yesterday.

Sailing, sailing... let's pretend it's summer!

Illustration Friday - Blue

blue illustration friday
Once again, just under the wire for Illustration Friday! This week's topic is blue, and I was working on this illustration while thinking of the story of Tatterhood, which was one of my favorite fairy tales as a child. You see, the reason that this story is so great is because the main character (aka Tatterhood) is rambunctious and crazy looking, and rides around on a goat waving a wooden spoon. Yet, she is a princess. She fights off witches, she captains a boat with no crew, and did I mention she rides around on a goat? - I just loved her as a kid.

At any rate, this is the queen, weeping for the fact that she has no children. She will have two soon enough - one beautiful golden haired princess, and my beloved Tatterhood.

Jane Austen Society of North America

Did you know there was such a thing? I guess if I am obsessed with Jane Austen, there must be other people out there who are as well. Jane Austen Society of North America

I'm not even sure how I ended up on this site...

I Heart Rummage this Sunday

I Heart Rummage is this Sunday, December 4th from 12 - 4 pm at the Crocodile Cafe. We will also be there on December 18th from 12 - 4 pm. Rummage is pretty much the coolest craft fair in Seattle, full of great indie designers and artists! We'll have our small paintings, greeting cards, and purses, so come on by!

Also, here are some random cool blogs by people I know:
Fancy, Schmancy, and Pants are three stores in Seattle.

Our pal Bob Rini is a really talented artist and is part of the 7 Deadly Sinners Blog.
