Yet another mermaid

If you know anything about me, you'll know that I love drawing mermaids and hair.

Faux Book Cover Project Number 3 - Snow

The third installment of my fake book cover project.  I'm not bothering to make up author names and put them on the book covers; but I did leave space for it at the bottom of this one.

I think this one was heavily influenced by one of my critique group partners, the very talented A.M. Sartor, who recently completed this cover image: http://amsartor.com/30828/984501/folio1/the-phoenix-project

Basically, it's all about the hair, as usual.

Manga Studio Inking Experiment

More gigantic hair for you.

I don't usually draw much in this style anymore, but I recently purchased Manga Studio since they were having a 90% off sale.  It's a lot of fun to play around with, and is great for inking.  The software is primarily designed for comic and manga artists, and there are tools for creating panels and inserting text easily.  But for any artist or illustrator who wants to do digital inking, I've found Manga Studio to be far easier for inking than Photoshop, and it delivers a very nice, crisp line.  The files can be exported as Photoshop files, so this image was inked in Manga Studio and colored in Photoshop.

Overall, I'm really happy with Manga Studio even though it may just be feeding my love of drawing hair.

Sleeping Beauty sketch

Got a bit carried away with the hair and the dress, as usual.  Also, I have no clue how to draw a spinning wheel. Thirdly, I learned that Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on the spindle, not the distaff, as it appears from this sketch.

Drawing curly hair

I decided to draw some curly hair.  For no reason, really, other than wanting to see how to draw curly hair.  My only insights into the process are: draw a bunch of squiggly shapes.  Then, draw a lot of little short curvy lines going one way and then the other.  Make some parts darker and leave some lighter.  After doing this for a long time, you will have a nice drawing of curly hair.

Cat Burglar

Shortly thereafter... wackiness ensues.

Disgruntled Princess

Still tweaking this one. I added some pencil shading to the figures and colored pencil highlights to her dress.

Disgruntled Princess

Just finished this potential portfolio piece. Basically, it's just an excuse to draw people with powdered wigs. Watercolor and pencil on Arches cold press watercolor paper.

Trying to combine my love of drawing women's hair with an actual, useful portfolio piece...

Another mermaid/giant hair drawing

The hair got a little out of control on this one. But I really had fun drawing it.

Mermaids with big hair

I have decided to combine my love of drawing mermaids with my love of drawing women with big hair.

Giant Hair

This is a perfectly reasonable hairstyle, I assure you.

Drawing with brush pens is so much fun.

Illustration Friday - Undone

Sometimes things just don't turn out the way you want them to.
Next thing you know, all your work is undone.

Giant powdered wig

I have been developing a bit of an obsession with ladies with big powdered wigs lately. Maybe it's all those commercials for the Marie Antoinette movie that were airing not too long ago. Maybe I'll develop this into an illustration for Cinderella, or some other fairy tale.
