Taking a break...

If you are wondering why I haven't made any blog posts for months, well, it's because I'm pregnant and haven't had much time to devote to the blog. We will be having a baby next week, so we'll be taking a break for the summer. I hope to be back in the fall, but, we'll see what happens...

Recent Project: Indie Fixx Logo

Here's a recently completed project - a logo for Indie Fixx. I recently did Jen's images for the Indie Fixx shop, and she wanted to redesign the logo to match.

We created a collaborative print with The Sampler for the February Sampler. It's a limited run of 250. You can get one in the Sampler Shop! By the way, I am totally into mermaids and narwhals right now.

Work in progress

It's been so long since I posted anything, so here's a work in progress. We just finished moving to a new house, and we're booked up with illustration work through the end of the year, so we will be busy.

We have two shows coming up next year as well - we'll have our work at Redux in Portland in February, and at Trabant in Pioneer Square in Spring.

Indie Fixx Shop is now open!

Here's a recently completed project: the illustrations for the Indie Fixx Shop. I previously worked with Jen on her logo for Tickle Fancy, and then she asked me to create some illustrations for her new shop! It's filled with a variety of wonderful handmade items from independent designers, so go check it out. As always, I encourage everyone to buy handmade for the holidays, and the Indie Fixx Shop is a great place to start.

Creepy Zombie Girls

Some creepy zombie girls... I've been kind of stressed lately. I think this is why I'm drawing these things. Okay, and obviously they are not eating his head, because they have big chunks of flesh in their hands... but I didn't feel like going back and putting something else in, since this is something I was just playing around with.

These pictures are a bit deceptive: the green purse is actually larger than the black and white.

Indie Artist Fixx Interview

Jen of Indie Fixx has posted an interview with me on her site. I have worked with Jen on her illustrations for Tickle Fancy and have just recently completed some new illustrations for her. She is so much fun to work with, and she makes wonderful jewelry.

I just finished sewing a whole boatload of handbags to send to ArtStar in Philadelphia. These are all fabric purses, some with blockprinted images.

Mermaid sketches

So, related to the previous post, sometimes something in that page of heads will spark an idea. This looked like a mermaid's head to me.

Then I went on a major mermaid kick:






I think I'm done drawing mermaids for a while.

Shortly thereafter, I went into my smoky-eyed waifs phase:





But, I'm tired of drawing these women now. Right now, shaggy-haired dudes seems to be emerging as a strong contender for the next wave of sketches.

Random sketches - getting out of creative slumps

It's been so long since I posted, I figured I should put something up. I have been busy with a few different illustration projects and making more purses. Since everything is in progress right now, instead I thought I would post some random sketches.

Sometimes I get in a creative slump, and will look at a blank piece of paper and have absolutely no idea what to draw. I feel like I can't possibly do another drawing; I can't come up with one single thing to put on paper. I usually just start drawing the same thing over and over again in order to snap myself out of it. Usually I just draw pages and pages filled with heads.

These particular heads came out of a realization that I almost always draw girls. I felt like I should probably know how to draw guys, too:

After about three pages of heads, I am usually ready to draw something else.
